007 iphone

2007_iphone

Well, now we know... Steve Jobs said it all at the Macworld Keynote this morning (makes me smile to say that, as it is –was- evening in Brussels by then). Many new stuff coming from Apple in 2007. Apple computers inc. is now Apple inc. (more than computers, right!). Then a quick reminder of the announced code-named iTV now launched under its definitive name: AppleTV.

But the main piece was, as expected for years now, the iphone. A mobile as it is, but a lot closer to a 007 gadget than it is to a phone. Full of fancy techno features and innovative patents, this one was worth the wait. It has naturally all the main features of the smart phones, like sms, internet, email, blutooth, 2.0 megapixel camera, and also WiFi.

But hey... more is less : not a single button, no slider, but a large multi-touch display, detecting your finger tips to enable you to browse the device. An “accelerometer” sensor automatically switches from portrait to landscape orientation, detecting when you rotate the phone. It has 4 or 8Gb of memory, runs under OSX, is an ipod, has access to Google maps, makes conference calls... and more.

Make sure you check it out on Apple site. And in case you want to view it, Steve Jobs’ full Keynote presentation is now available on this link.

So, are you ready to "Phone Different" ?

The Keynote Mystery

Keynote_1

As mac fans know it by now, 2006 was the year of mac rumors. Talking about the iphone, the ipod video and more... with as only limit the imagination of the mac freaks. Nevertheless, even if rumors are just rumors... the brand is everywhere and Apple keeps reinventing "innovation".

Tomorrow, Apple CEO Steve Jobs will make his 2007 Keynote presentation at the Macworld expo in San Francisco (9.00 am local time). This time it seems to be a bit "different" ("different?"... cool, that's what they told us so a few years ago... and we still remember, right!). The mac community is more excited than ever and so is... Steve himself -who invited his best friends to his presentation- according to this recent post on Wired magazine in its famous (and serious) "Cult of Mac" section.

So, a few more hours to wait, right. If this coming event makes you insomniac, here is a good little night read from Presentation Zen, that should make you smile and happy to have a mac, plus remind you a few essentials of "public presentations". And well, for the dreamers : Sweet dreams!

Tomorrow is... "Just the Beginning": )

SKYPE video for MAC is out!

Skype_video_mac

Great news for the Mac fans. Today, Information Week announced that Skype video for Apple computers was launched. This means that from now on, video calls between Windows and Mac platforms will be as easy as phoning with Skype. Version 2.0 beta is now available for download.

Coming soon :

Yesterday was full of Apple news as well. Steve Jobs delivered a special announcement from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco (link to watch the full special event). The soon available "iTV" (first quarter 2007), a living room streaming box will soon let you beam your media from your computer directly to your TV. Jobs also introduced the colorful new ipod nano range, the ipod shuffle clip and the launch of itunes 7 with downloadable (and yes legal) movies and ipod games. Pictures of the coming iTV player covered on Gizmodo.

These new products are here to remind us that the link between internet, computers and our homes is growing stronger everyday.

MTV overdrive on Macs - the limits

Mtv_overdrive_1

News from WIRED : MTV overdrive now available for Macs!

"Long-ish-time readers may recall that I've had a lot of complaints about Web sites whose video components were Windows-only.
(...)    Overdrive now works on Macs everywhere --
"

Good news indeed, it works on all platforms, and yes plays on Macs as well. Nevertheless, if you live in Europe like I do, be prepared for some more frustration : no videos are available from outside of the U.S. When you launch a video link, you'll get a black screen with a message note : "Copyrights restrict us from playing this videos outside the U.S." Only the featured shows are available.

Even if we all know the story of the production/distribution companies (whether music or movies)... not keen on copyrights. Paradox of the situation (hint! hint!) :  if you still want to watch videos clips (I mean in Europe), just go back to your good old telly, turn it on MTV and enjoy. Most of the "so called" restricted videos are broadcasted there anyway.

What about cinemanow.com on Macs... in Europe?
Just can't wait (well, I mean, really!)
