Some of you have been asking me about the name of this blog. Why mindblob? Where does that name come from? Well, it's a metaphor that came to me as the mix of 2 ideas:
1. - It's a fact, we are now all "linked" through the internet. The image of humans' brains inter-connected via the web, lead me to the consciousness that this was going to be the roots a new kind of social communication. Distance (and time) don't matter anymore. Ideas are given a "way out" of our own minds. Our thoughts can float on the web until others meet them. If, like the French proverb says: "Light comes from the shock of ideas"... then this perspective is definitely going to shake our (human) world.
According to the fact that the human genesis is built around adaptation (from a behavioral perspective, here), it is more than probable that this new opportunity given to our brains will lead to new forms of idea generation, based on "common or shared experience" VS self or stand-alone experience. Although it does completely rely on technology -the connections being software or application based- it comes from "human back to human". This, I believe, gives new horizons to our thoughts and to the development of human knowledge. If it changes the way people act and communicate from a social to a personal point of view and from this perspective, I believe it deserves to be seen as an : EVOLUTION.
2. - The second idea is an anecdotal metaphor brought by a film reference: "The Blob" - with Steve McQueen, directed in 1958 by Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr. and illustrating the baseline:
"a growing magma of ideas and connections between brains".
In the film, the "blob" is a viscous substance coming from an alien rock that hit the earth. That substance is alive and swallows all beings in contact with it to grow bigger and bigger. It seems to be unstoppable: "Nothing can stop it!". This symbolizes the fact that more people everyday are discovering the communication potential they now have via the web and its very accessible platforms. Their single voice can now go public, they can also link to others who share their opinions and thoughts, regroup and give a new dimension to their actions. Like the blob, it grows, from town to town and touches more people everyday. That phenomenon, I believe, is leading our society to restructure itself, from people... up to the companies, corporations, mass media (and not the other way around). I see it very positively but nevertheless, it is a : REVOLUTION.
Here goes MINDBLOB... see more on my very first introduction post. An alien vision on the changes digital communication brings to our lives.
So... has the Blob swallowed you yet? (...our friends Australians... they are ahead of us, and not only because of the time zones, I tell you!) ; )
